Srinagar: Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire along the Arnia sector of Jammu, in which two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were injured, the BSF said. Two BSF personnel were injured after Pakistan Rangers “resorted to unprovoked firing” on border guards along the International Border (IB), it said.
The Pakistan Rangers opened fire around 8.15 am on Tuesday on the troops at the Vikram post in the Arnia sector, following which the BSF jawans fired in retaliation, the BSF said in a statement.

This is the first major incident of ceasefire violation after the February 2021 ceasefire understanding between India and the Pakistan army.

The injured men have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital. The doctors said their condition is “stable”.

“On 17 Oct 2023 at about 2015 hrs, the Pak Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing towards BSF troops which was befittingly retaliated by alert BSF troops in Arnia Sector. Two BSF personnel received bullet injuries who have been immediately provided medical assistance,” the BSF said in a statement.

India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, in which both nations agreed to strictly observe all agreements on ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other sectors.

In another incident, the BSF on Tuesday arrested a Pakistani national who crossed the international border and entered Indian territory inadvertently in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, news agency ANI reported.

“On October 17, forward deployed BSF troops apprehended 1 Pakistan national ahead of the border fence, while he crossed the Indian border and entered Indian territory, in the area falling near the Village Khalra in Tarn Taran district,” said an official BSF release.

During questioning, it came to notice that the arrested Pakistani national had crossed over to Indian territory inadvertently. Nothing objectionable was recovered from him, it said.
