India Navy Gears Up for Imphal: Indigenous Destroyer Set to Join Fleet

On December 26, 2023, the Indian Navy will proudly witness the commissioning of its newest warship, the INS Imphal, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliance in advanced shipbuilding and maritime defense.

The INS Imphal is the third of four Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided missile destroyers, designed indigenously by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.

The INS Imphal also incorporates innovations that enhance operational efficiency and crew comfort. Its Combined Gas and Gas (COGAG) propulsion system delivers exceptional speed and agility, while its advanced onboard systems ensure smooth and efficient functioning across diverse operational environments

With a displacement of 7,400 tons and a length of 164 meters, the INS Imphal packs a powerful punch. The destroyer boasts a range of advanced weaponry and sensors, including:
