Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has developed a special drone called CATS Warrior, which is an unmanned combat aircraft (UCAV). According to sources, it is ready for its first low-speed taxi test soon. CATS Warrior is designed in such a way that it can attack the enemy together with fighter jets. It will be a faithful companion of the aircraft in the sky, i.e. a loyal wingman. This drone will be able to collect information about the enemy, maintain surveillance and conduct strike missions on its own.
This drone was first showcased at Aero India 2025 this year. It is expected to make its first flight by the end of 2025. Newspace Research and Technologies is also working with HAL on this project. Major countries of the world like America, China and Russia are also developing similar drones. Now India is also moving fast towards strengthening its air force using this technology.
What is special about CATS Warrior UCAV?
It is an unmanned combat drone, it has no pilot, it can carry out missions remotely or on its own. The Loyal Wingman will be flown by a fighter jet so that it can support piloted aircraft, such as avoiding enemy radar or launching pre-emptive strikes. Swarm technology is where many drones can fly together in a swarm and confuse enemy systems. It can perform both reconnaissance (ISR), surveillance and precision bombing. It has a stealth design, so that it is not easily detected by enemy radar. According to initial information, its operational range could be up to 700-800 kilometers, although the final figures will be determined after testing as its range will be further increased.

It can carry out precision bombing. It can be launched from an airbase and can go deep into enemy territory and carry out missions. Its range will depend on which missiles or bombs it is armed with. The CATS Warrior is capable of carrying 100 to 150 pounds of bombs or electronic warfare (EW) pods. This means it can not only jam enemy radar systems, but also drop bombs with precision if necessary.
