In a significant move to enhance border security, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha convened an urgent meeting with top security and intelligence officials at his official residence on Thursday. The high-level discussions focused on reinforcing surveillance along the porous India-Bangladesh border.
The closed-door session, which lasted over an hour, saw the participation of senior representatives from the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, and key intelligence agencies. Sources indicated that the talks were centered on implementing tighter monitoring and launching coordinated operations in vulnerable stretches of the border.
“Maintaining peace and order in our border regions is crucial. We must remain vigilant to curb cross-border crimes and illegal activities,” the Chief Minister reportedly emphasized during the meeting.

According to insiders, authorities are planning to deploy advanced surveillance tools and increase patrolling in high-risk zones to preempt infiltration and smuggling attempts.
The security review in Tripura comes as neighbouring Meghalaya intensifies its own border control measures. On May 8, the Meghalaya administration imposed night curfews along a 40-kilometre stretch of unfenced border in West Jaintia Hills district, citing the threat of illegal crossings.
As per the directive, a curfew is in effect from 8 PM to 6 AM within 200 meters of the Zero Line (international border), prohibiting the movement of people, unauthorised gatherings, and the carrying of arms or objects that could be used as weapons.
Officials note that over 40 kilometres of the 444-kilometre-long Meghalaya-Bangladesh border remain unfenced, posing persistent security challenges for enforcement agencies.
