Pakistan Army officer Syed Moiz Abbas Shah was killed in a shootout with TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Abbas was the one who captured Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in 2019. Meanwhile, another Pakistan Army officer, Jibranullah, was also killed in a shootout. According to a report published in the Pakistani media, the Pakistan Army received information from secret sources that TTP militants were hiding in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Similarly, the Pakistan Army conducted an operation in the Sararogha area there on Tuesday. Abbas and two others died in a shootout with the militants. On the other hand, it is reported that 11 TTP militants were killed in the shootout with the Pakistani Rangers.

The influence of TTP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is increasing. Which is a headache for Islamabad. The TTP declared ‘war’ after peace talks with the Pakistani government collapsed in November 2022. The rebels alleged that the ceasefire violation and joint operations by the Pakistani army and the Counter-Terrorism Department had spread unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, despite continuous operations by Pakistan, the TTP’s influence in the province has not diminished.
